Montreal Tango Lessons

A human, cultural and personalized approach to Argentine tango

Argentine Tango is much more than a dance. It is a living culture, a universal language, and a human connection built on listening, trust, and mutual respect.

At Cosy Montréal, we offer a learning path inspired by the traditional milongas of Buenos Aires: learn, practice, and share.

Tuesdays: A Laboratory of Figures, Communication, and Improvisation

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, at mei dolore tritani.

Tuesday activities are designed for dancers who wish to deepen their understanding of tango and expand their ability to improvise.

The focus is placed on:

  • Communication within the couple
  • Leading and following techniques
  • Musical interpretation
  • Dynamic changes and transitions
  • Intermediate and advanced sequences
  • Creative improvisation

The goal is not simply to learn more figures, but to transform them into a living, spontaneous, and personal dance.

As dancers progress, memorized patterns gradually give way to musical interpretation, improvisation, floor awareness, and a deeper understanding of social dancing.

Fridays: Discover the Foundations of Tango

Friday activities are designed for beginners, newcomers, and anyone curious about discovering Argentine Tango in a welcoming and structured environment.

Participants explore the essential foundations of tango:

  • Walking and posture
  • The abrazo (embrace)
  • Connection and communication
  • Musicality
  • Floor navigation
  • Milonga traditions and etiquette

Intermediate-level figures are also introduced to bring color, fluidity, and dynamism to the dance while remaining faithful to the social spirit of contemporary Argentine Tango.

The learning experience naturally continues with a guided practice session, followed by an authentic milonga inspired by the traditions of Buenos Aires.

The Milonga: The Heart of the Tradition

Every activity concludes with a supervised milonga, where learning comes alive in an authentic social environment.

A genuine Buenos Aires-style milonga is built upon many traditions, customs, and unwritten codes. Yet, in the end, they all lead to one essential principle:

Mutual respect.

Respect for the music.
Respect for one’s partner.
Respect for fellow dancers.
Respect for the dance floor.

Under the supervision of Santiago Gimenez, a pioneer of Argentine Tango on Montréal’s Plateau Mont-Royal and an active contributor to the development of tango in the city for more than 30 years, participants discover an environment where tradition, learning, and community come together.

Because ultimately, tango belongs to everyone.

We are all Tango.
