In the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal, Le Bisou (Tuesdays) and Cosy Montréal (Fridays) offer much more than a tango evening.

They are part of the authentic tradition of Argentine Tango, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, where learning, practice, and social connection come together as one living cultural experience.

Our approach follows the traditional structure found in Buenos Aires:

What Is an Authentic Milonga?

An authentic milonga is much more than a place to dance.

It is a living sociocultural tradition inherited from the neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, where music, human connection, and mutual respect come together to create a unique social experience.

Over generations, Argentine Tango has developed its own customs and codes: moving harmoniously around the dance floor, respecting fellow dancers, understanding musicality, exchanging a glance before an invitation (cabeceo), and appreciating the embrace as the heart of the dance. While these traditions may seem complex at first, they ultimately rest on a single principle: mutual respect.

A genuine porteño-style milonga welcomes both experienced dancers and newcomers eager to discover this remarkable cultural heritage. It is a place where people meet, learn, share, and become part of a community united by music and the abrazo.

At Cosy Montréal and Le Bisou, we strive to preserve this authentic spirit by offering a welcoming environment where Argentine Tango is experienced as a cultural, social, and human tradition.

Under the supervision of Santiago Gimenez, a pioneer of Argentine Tango on Montréal’s Plateau Mont-Royal and an active contributor to the development of tango in the city for more than 30 years, our activities are dedicated to cultural transmission, community building, and the preservation of this living heritage.

Beyond the steps and figures, an authentic milonga is ultimately a place where people learn to share the floor, the music, and respect for one another.
